Last year, I released what has since become my most popular knit pattern – the Twisted Love Cowl. A couple months ago, I had someone reach out and inquire about modifying the cowl to a scarf, so I set out to make that happen.
Do you see all that fuzzy goodness on that scarf? No, that’s not pet hair, it’s from the alpaca in Lion Brand’s Touch of Alpaca yarn. It’s soft, warm, comes in some dreamy colors, and is so easy to work with. Not to mention it’s affordable! If you’re looking for a readily available yarn with natural fiber content, consider this one.

I love making scarves, cowls, infinity scarves…if it’s going to keep my neck warm, I want it in my life! I have a lot of crochet scarf patterns – my favorite, the Late Night Infinity Scarf, is a soft, warm, textured crochet pattern that I have on repeat in the winter. This year I’m planning on adding more knit scarf patterns, so keep an eye out!
Okay, now, don’t get intimidated by the textured stitches. It’s a really easy twist (no pun intended) on a knit 2 together stitch that creates that textured, sort of faux cable look. I’m so glad someone asked for the Twisted Love Cowl in scarf form, because it’s one of my favorites! (You can buy both Twisted patterns as a bundle here.)
Everyone loves a natural fiber yarn. They’re warm, they’re soft, and they’re luxurious. You can find Touch of Alpaca at most JOANN stores and on the Lion Brand website. It’s 90% acrylic and 10% alpaca, so it’s still machine wash friendly, but makes you feel a little more special wearing it.
If alpaca isn’t your thing, or you can’t get this particular yarn, you can try Mighty Stitch from KnitPicks, Wool Ease from Lion Brand, which are both wool blends. If you want 100% acrylic, I’d suggest either Lion Brand Jeans or Heartland. You can definitely use something a little lighter weight than a medium worsted, but just check your gauge, and adjust your cast on accordingly.
