Roseate Cowl, a crochet cowl designed with MadelineTosh yarn

January 31, 2023      Leave a Comment

The Roseate Cowl was designed using MadelineTosh Tosh Merino Light, which is a 100% superwash merino wool, fingering weight, single-ply yarn. Now, a lot of people don’t like single-ply yarn, but I love working with it! The nature of single-ply is to be a bit of a thick-thin yarn, so there are variances in the yarn thickness as you work with it. Some people will cut out the thickest or thinnest parts, but I embrace it all and use the yarn as-is, letting the differences become part of the character of the piece.

The sample uses Gracenotes, which is a medium gray tone with brightly colored speckles, and pairs well with basically any other color in their lineup. I chose to pair it with Grapefruit, for a bright burst of summery color.

I designed this piece to be a transition piece, bringing you out of the tail end of winter, through spring, and into the very early summer. It’s warm enough to work for cold end of winter evenings, and light enough to get you through breezy spring days and early summer mornings.

The piece as written uses about 50g of each skein, so you could easily make 2 , reversing the colors for a coordinating pair of cowls.

The cowl is worked in turned rounds, which is part of what creates the textured look in the stitches.

I can’t wait to see what colors you choose for your Roseate Cowl!

You can purchase the cowl on Ravelry or Etsy.
