Melissa with Woods and Wool is the photography guru, and she’s kind enough to share her wisdom with the rest of us.
In addition to great photos, her designs are simple and elegant and cozy. Plus, she has the PERFECT shade of pink lipstick!
Why is Woods and Wool a favorite?
- Her Instagram feed is #goals. She shows how you can make the most of having only one or two projects going at a time, and still post regularly & keep it interesting.
- Like I said, she is a wealth of photography knowledge and she shares that with us!
- She’s making crochet look cool! She definitely reminded me of how much you can do with crochet and how lovely it can be.
Now onto some of my favorite Woods and Wool patterns!
1. Glacier Beanie – “It’s a ribbed hat…what’s the big deal?” Okay, I admit, I kind of thought that myself. But then I made one, and I love it! First, she uses a fun stitch to achieve the ribbed look so it keeps it interesting. Second, it’s very easy to customize it to whatever size you need. Third, this is a look that has traditionally been reserved for knitting because crochet ribbing was too bulky. But people like Melissa are finding ways to break through that and give crocheters the same options knitters have!
2. Pebble Cardi -This is another pattern that breaks the rules. I’ve always thought of crochet sweaters as being bulky and uncomfortable, and knit sweaters as being cozy. But look at the drape and fit of this crochet cardigan!! I haven’t made the Pebble Cardi yet, because I have my own crochet cardigan design in the works and I want to make sure I’m not influenced by how Melissa made this. I want to get mine figured out and published, then I’ll be working on one of these FOR SURE!
3. Tank it Easy Top – I absolutely adore this and can’t wait until I can get one made for myself. This is another example (I know, I’m on repeat here!) of how crochet garments can be just as good (or better!) as knit garments. Jump over to the Ravelry page and look at how well this fits on a body – it’s just gorgeous!
4. Perry Poncho – Ponchos are back in! Did you know? How cozy does this look? It’s simple stitches and simple construction, but it’s so pretty. It doesn’t have to be complicated! That’s another lesson I’ve learned from Melissa.
5. Really Pretty Infinity – I would be remiss if I didn’t include the scarf in the main photo. The Really Pretty Infinity is the only pattern I’ve seen so far that has made me WANT to work with the velvet yarn. It IS really pretty, I can just imagine how soft and warm it is, and there’s a perfect balance of stitch definition and just infinite squish.
6. Chain Link Armored Cowl Vest – I’m going to throw in another bonus pattern, because you’re going to see a *very* similar pattern in my next post. This was a collaborative pattern project, and Melissa handled the crochet version. I really enjoy seeing the same piece worked up in both crafts, and this just looks so comfortable!
I know you’re going to have just as much trouble choosing just one Woods and Wool pattern to make as I’ve had. Go give Melissa a follow and tell her YarnyBird sent you!
