I have 2 patterns for you today – one knit, and one crochet.

The bamboo stitch in knitting looks very similar to the crunchy crochet stitch, so you can achieve a very similar look no matter which is your preferred method.
One of the fun things about these patterns is that they’re SO easily adjustable. Gauge isn’t really important, and you can adapt to make these into dishcloths, hand towels, or even blankets!

Bamboo Knit Hot Pad
- Finished measurement : 7.5 inches x 7.5 inches
- 1.4 oz / 41 g / 68 yards 100% cotton worsted weight yarn (I like Lily Sugar ‘N Cream Yarn)
- Size 7 / 4.5 mm knitting needles (You can use straight, circular, or double-pointed, whichever you prefer. I love Knitters Pride DREAMZ Deluxe Interchangeable Needle Set)

Gauge
4” = 10 pattern repeats
4” = 22 rows
Abbreviations:
- CO – Cast On
- K – Knit
- P – Purl
- RS – Right Side
- WS – Wrong Side
- YO – Yarn Over
Instructions:
CO 40 stitches using the long tail cast-on method.
Row 1– YO. K next 2 stitches. Slip the YO stitch over the 2 knit stitches and off the needle (like binding off). Repeat to the end. (RS)
Row 2 – P all stitches. (WS)
Rows 3-40 – Repeat rows 1 & 2.
Bind off. Fasten off yarn & weave in ends.
For a wider hot pad – CO an even number of stitches to your desired width. For taller hot pad – continue to repeat rows 1 & 2 until it measures your desired height.

Crunchy Crochet Hot Pad
- Finished measurement : 7.5 inches x 7.5 inches
- 1.4 oz / 41 g / 68 yards 100% cotton worsted weight yarn (I like Lily Sugar ‘N Cream Yarn)
- Size G/6/4.25 mm crochet hook (my favorites are Boye Aluminum Crochet Hook)
- Scissors
- Yarn Needle
Gauge
4” = 8 pattern repeats
4” = 16 rows
Abbreviations:
- Ch(s)—chain(s)
- HDC—half double crochet
- SlSt—slip stitch
- St(s)—stitch(es)
Ch 31. Turn.
Row 1—Slst to 3rd ch from your hook. *HDC in next st. Sl st to next st. *Repeat to the end of row. Turn.
Row 2—Ch 2. Sl st to 2nd stitch (working into the HDC from the previous row). *HDC in next st. Sl st to next st. *Repeat to end of the row, placing your last sl st in the top of the beginning ch 2 from previous row. Turn.
Rows 3-30—Repeat row 2.
Fasten off & weave in ends.
For wider hot pad – chain an odd number of stitches to your desired width. For taller hot pad – continue to repeat row 2 until it measures your desired height.
